Greg Merten graduated from OSU with a degree in Electrical Engineering with a solid-state physics focus. His career began with Fairchild Semiconductor followed by a move to Hewlett- Packard in the Bay Area in 1972. In 1981, Merten returned to Corvallis with HP and was involved in the development and commercialization of inkjet technology. For the next 20 years, he was responsible for Inkjet operations which produced Inkjet cartridges worldwide. Merten became vice president and general manager and grew the organization to 10,000 people on six sites internationally. Merten retired from HP in 2003 but continues to consult and speak on leadership and communication effectiveness. Merten was named Business Person of the Year by the Corvallis Benton County Chamber of Commerce for his exceptional leadership skills. He was previously inducted into the College of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 1999. He and his wife Diane currently serve on the College of Engineering’s Campaign Cabinet.
